How to move house in the rain

The weather is definitely changing and if you are moving house in the next few months here are some great tips to make your move as smooth as possible if the weather is not too favourable for you.

Moving in the cold, wet or storm doesn’t have to be a nightmare as long as you’re organised. Protect your belongings by packing them in cardboard boxes or large bags. Don’t fret about the future of the boxes as they are more durable than you may think. Don’t forget to seal them adequately with tape to minimise any potential moisture entering and damaging your items. We recommend leaving our clothes on their hangers and wrapping them in a garbage bag before you place them into a box for extra protection. It will also save you time when you reach the other end of your move and can hang your clothes without too much hassle.

Removalists have to move in rain or shine so speak to them prior if the forecast is for rain on your moving day. Mattress pads or blankets will protect your furniture and industrial plastic covers and rolls will be able to protect your valuable items long enough to make your move.

Not only are large thick blankets handy to protect your furniture from the elements, they will also act as a bubble wrap for wood furnishings. If you don’t have any, your removalists should be able to help you!

You’ve prepped your contents and furniture on your end, so make sure you prepare yourself in your new home. Put aside some old blankets or towels to lay on both sides of the front door as many removalists won’t have time to remove their shoes while they are carrying heavy boxes. It will not only make cleaning easier, but it will also be safer.

Moving home is tiring but is can also be exciting. Plan ahead and set yourself up for a stress-free relocation.
