January 2016 Monthly Update
By | 2nd Feb 16

With the summer holidays well and truly over for most of us, the first auction campaigns for 2016 have commenced and we will start to see the market back in full swing in early February. As we celebrated Australia Day and many of us felt grateful to live in a country which provides us with so much opportunity, I was also proud to see an Airlie Beach home in Queensland crowned the best house for sale in the world for 2015, only further proving that Australia’s property market is world class and keeping up with some of the most competitive marketplaces in the world. The palatial 2,649sqm property boasts seven king-sized bedrooms, nine bathrooms and an oceanfront pavilion. To read more about the property, please CLICK HERE.

Many predictions were made towards the end of 2015 surrounding the market for 2016 and over the festive season it seemed that the market conditions continued on as they had done earlier in the year with family homes in Melbourne’s middle suburbs still achieving good results. 168 Gilbert Rd, Preston which was an original condition home on 516sqm and busy road sold for $750,000 and 36 The Common, Macleod a 4 bedroom modern home achieved $1,025,000. The REIV released their December quarterly results and Melbourne’s annual growth was a healthy 8% with 92 Melbourne suburbs now being recorded on the coveted million dollar list. Some of the top performing suburbs for the year included Sunshine, Werribee, Reservoir and Greenvale. We were recently quoted in an article for the Herald Sun about the increase in demand for some of the growth suburbs. To read the full article, please CLICK HERE.

The debate over the impact of foreign investment on the market place will no doubt continue as treasurer Scott Morrison has commenced the year by ordering the sale of eight homes illegally purchased by foreign investors. The property values range from $200,000 to five million. In 2015 many of Melbourne’s fastest growing suburbs have experienced substantial capital growth largely due to their popularity with foreign investors. To read the full article, please CLICK HERE.

As rumours continue about the next location for ‘The Block’, we looked to a recent article published by Domain to see what design trends will stay in 2016 and it will be interesting to see which of these eleven trends we may see on “The Block” Television show this year.
