Design tips: Using plants to decorate your home

We are always looking for fresh and easy ways to brighten and redecorate the home. Plants and flowers aren’t always the first thing that comes to mind, but used well, can encourage harmony and balance to the overall look and feel of your home.

If you have had bad experiences in the past with plants, we have some easy and tips and tricks to help you!

For the novice or seasoned green thumb

It’s important to know how you enjoy living in your space. Your lifestyle can help you decide what kind of plants to go for, No one likes to kill plants so if you’re new to being a plant caretaker and don’t have to time to monitor the water levels of your fiddle fig leaf, we suggest looking into low maintenance options such as cacti and succulents.

They can be arranged in a large pot or several small ones… or get creative and place them in vases for your own DIY terrarium!

Herbs, edible plants and fragrant florals

If you’re living in an apartment or like to reap the rewards of your labour; herbs, edible plants and fragrant flowers are always a good option. Planting herbs such as basil, mint and rosemary means not only do you have lush greenery on your balcony to look at, but you can have fresh organic herbs anytime you cook! For a hardy floral, we suggest lavender which will thrive and is easy to care for.

Complimenting plants with décor

You don’t have to clear too much space to add plants into your life. It’s important that whatever plant you decide to use compliments your décor. Using indirect light from a bedroom or lounge room window, is a great opportunity to cluster a few vessels in various sizes and shapes to bring the outdoor in without distracting from the view outside. Look for dead corners or bare bench spaces in your kitchen and try adding a potted lily or orchid to add an easy sophistication.

The most important thing is to have fun! There are so many creative ways to brighten your home with some greenery or florals. Choose vessels or pots that are interesting and colourful and voila... you have a living art piece!
