The Anti-Dream Home Series: Hidden potential in Richmond cottage

Article by Emily Hutchinson

622 Bridge Road, Richmond is a perfect example of the anti-dream home. The English-style cottage was originally built in 1941 as part of Richmond’s first housing commission estate. It served as a home to servicemen who returned from World War II and has remained relatively untouched ever since. A heritage overlay means property developers can’t knock it down.

It may look scary, but Frank Valentic who is a buyer’s advocate from Advantage Property Consulting, who you might have also seen on The Block, revealed its hidden potential.

“It’s a solid home and being brick means it’s low maintenance. Older homes were built to last and this one has some lovely period features including timber detailing, fireplaces and picture rails. The home is on a good parcel of land for this area with easy access to public transport and local amenities,” Valentic says.
