What we love about this series of The Block
By | 29th Sep 17

Our director Frank Valentic has been a popular buyer’s advocate on The Block over the past nine seasons and we are excited to once again be involved. If you missed his episode recently giving his advice and thoughts on this year’s contestants we have compiled a quick breakdown of how we think the contestants are performing. Read on as we explore the homes and what we love about this season so far!

Josh and Elyes’s styling – This duo has it down pat when it comes to styling. Their interior decoration is unfailing, beautiful and well thought out. We think their home has a great contemporary warmth and luxury functionality. From their study, bathroom and to their living and dining rooms, they have combined warm earth texture through wood and natural textiles along with accents of luxe to complete the overall look and feel of the home. Greenery and a circular sofa really brings a collected and curated sense of style to their home and we can’t get enough! Although we love the styling, it will be interesting to see how buyers react to the lack of a second living area and a mezzanine bedroom as this could put some families off.

Ronnie and Georgia’s Consistency – This funny couple have been consistent in their styling and delivery to date. We can hardly fault them and were blown away with their choice in finishes from the day they delivered their bathroom. They have taken the character of the home and have successfully introduced contemporary elements, which has brought a striking elegance throughout. We think they are strong contenders come auction day. Although some of the judges had varying feedback about their black additional sitting room, we think it was a bold choice that many buyers would appreciate.

Hannah and Clint’s Master Bedroom – How could you not remember their amazing master bedroom wallpaper? Hannah and Clint really finished this room beautifully with their striking styling choices. From the red and blush accents to the marble and gold trims for bedside tables this bedroom is everything on trend. It could have been a risky choice with the wallpaper but we think it really highlighted their sense of style and confidence.

Jason and Sarah’s Living and Dining room – Jason and Sarah have had a few false starts in this season but there have been some great positives to their home thus far. Their living and dining room is one of our favourites with their quirky choice of “kid” art and luxurious royal blue velvet sofa. We are hoping they keep up the momentum with their renovation as it will be interesting to see how the home performs come auction day.

Sticks and Wombat’s Kids room – Funny men Sticks and Wombat really nailed their kid’s room. The rock-climbing wall was a great addition and is something unique to The Block. Great choice of wallpaper and grey paint with Australiana artwork really balances the room – a great example of how to balance fun, function and style. We are really enjoying watching this duo throughout the season, not just for their great sense of humour but also their homage to natural timbers throughout.  We hope that they stay true to their style but take on some of the recent feedback in order to achieve some harmony in their house.

It is coming to the pointy end of the competition, and come auction day it will be interesting to see how each of the teams perform. It has been awhile since we have seen a whole street renovated on The Block and it has proved to be a challenge for some of the team. We will keep you updated on the progress of the teams each week – keep an eye out for Frank Valentic’s weekly video market updates to hear the latest news!
